What is a pinworm test?
A pinworm test looks for the eggs of the pinworm which are laid around a horse's bum, causing it to scratch and itch to try and releive the irritation.
How does a pinworm test work?
A swab is taken from the skin around the horse's bum and then examined under a microscope to see if pinworm eggs are present.
When should I get a pinworm test carried out?
If your horse is showing signs of scratching its bum it may be due to irritation caused by pinworms. In this case it would be advisable to get a pinworm test carried out.
